Can anyone explain to me what constitutes ADD? This is to answer a
question I have been wondering about for quite some time now...
I will be happy to answer your question, Matt.question I have been wondering about for quite some time now...
Feel free to post here as often as you want, but be
aware that there are some troubled individuals that post here.
One person makes his money by writing what is considered
pornography; another is a crazed war-monger; another is
a totalitarian control-freak and yet another is obviously
a muscle-man for the "Medical-Industrial Complex."
Although we are privileged to have author-humanitarian
"Tim Brown" with us as well as Sara Freeman who understands
these issues better than all the rest put together.
And now ADD explained:
In 1920 Samuel Orton discovered the connection between biochemical
changes
in the brain and human behavior. During World War II, that knowledge
was
driven underground with the introduction of psychology and drugs by
corporate
market forces. Most cases of ADD, according to available scientific
literature
not connected with or paid for by drug companies, are due to a
deficiency in
neurotransmitters, sometimes in combination with food allergies and
sensitivity
to synthetic food additives, colors and chemicals. The United States
is the
world's largest user of Ritalin, or methylphenidate. It is interesting
that
the use of Ritalin occurs most in countries where cognitive
suppression of
the population is the highest. The largest organization concerning
ADD and
ADHD is C.H.A.D.D., which is subsidized to the tune of $800,000 per
year
by Ciba-Geigy, manufacturer of Ritalin. So, C.H.A.D.D. is in effect a
front
for the pharmaceutical industry, and their very existence is
unethical,
immoral and misleading to parents who are vulnerable because of the
purposeful lack of information about the condition affecting their
children.
Parents are intimidated into drugging their children by schools,
physicians and
the system, all of which have been themselves mislead or intimidated
by the
self-serving interlinked system of psychologists, those who claim to
be
medical "experts" and pharmaceutical companies, who intend on
maintaining the multi-billion dollar industry which they themselves
have created. What psychologists call ADD or ADHD is NOT a
psychological disorder, but a deficiency in neurotransmitters.
Since the actual treatment of the condition is relatively inexpensive
and non-intrusive, information that will allow parents to quickly,
appropriately and successfully deal with the problem is violently
suppressed in favor of psychopharmaceutical solutions, which
generate greater profit and increasing social disorder within
families.

Q: What are the causes of ADD in today's modern society?
It has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the main culprit of
"ADD" is environmental, personal and social. Diet plays a huge role
into
causality of the variety of symptoms relating to ADD. In fact, the
sugar
substitute, NutraSweet, could cause long-term health problems that
dramatically increases the severity of ADD; but that is another story.
No doubt that teenagers these days do not eat healthy foods. In
general,
kids now consume 10 times the amount of sugar, fat and carbohydrates
that there bodies can function with normally. When mindless
television
watching is factored in, a definite conclusion can easily be reached
between ADD and the social environment.
Unfortunately, the cure is as bad as the disease. Instead of shutting
off the
television, making sure that diet and exercise plays as great a role
as writing and arithmetic, and installing no-nonsense discipline,
today's parents
give to much leeway to our Corporate-Dominated society. Can anything
be
done? Yes, and it should be done by those Parents who need to know
that
America has 10 times the amount of cases of misdiagnosed ADD compared
to Europe; and over 100 times compared to Japan. In addition, the
United States
consumes more Ritalin than the rest of world Combined, by a factor
of nine. Stated another way, America with only 5% of the World's
population
consumes nine times more than all of Europe, Asia, South America and
the rest of the World.
Parents also are never told about the potential harmful side-effects
of Ritalin;
which includes addiction, growth retardation, tourettes syndrome and
cancer.
Many psychiatrists agree that most cases of ADD do not need Ritalin
but good old-fashioned parenting; which includes a proper diet. But
that is time consuming and difficult, and too many doctors and parents
opt for the easier route of taking a pill.
It seems like as time goes on, from the end of 1996 and into 1997; the
cases of ADD seem to be increasing but also the counter-trend of
greater
awareness about this "spin-drome" is also on the upswing. Hopefully
we will be
able to contact the many lost souls who come here on these newsgroups
for some honest and straight answers.

Q: Are there any reliable phsyiological tests for ADD?
A: There are no physiological tests for ADD; it is based on a
subjective
evaluation of behaviors. Children diagnosed as ADD--the vast majority
of whom are American and at least moderately affluent--might, in
another time or culture, be considered obstreperous, unruly,
inattentive,
underachieving, or simply rotten kids. But in America in the '90s
these
behaviors are classified as a disorder with an attendant inventory of
symptoms described in the American Psychiatric Association's
"Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Disorders IV" -
a six-from-column-A, six-from-column-B Chinese-dinner list of
options, from fidgeting to butting in on conversations to losing
things
to difficulty playing. It's a nonmedical looking list that gives rise
to
this medical diagnosis, which in turn has led to a pharmaceutical
treatment;
Ritalin or methylphenidate (MPH).
